First Post!

We are getting a little bit of a late start on our blog, but we wanted to create a page to share Mia’s experiences with the mustang throughout the Mustang Makeover/Youth Mustang Challenge.

As a little bit of background, Mia became interested in the Extreme Mustang Makeover last year when a friend at the barn participated in the event. Mia was able to watch Rachel of Alchemy Equine Horsemanship, with her mustang-in-training, Dixie. Mia was instantly hooked and knew right away that she wanted to become involved.

Mia had been eagerly awaiting the opportunity to participate in this journey for close to a year now. In preparation, she has done lots of reading and research on training horses, and has put in extra effort in doing barn chores and hchores around the house in order to show her dedication.

On March 3 we made the trip to Dream Horse Park in New Jersey to sign pickup paperwork and have a first look at the mustang. Mia was so excited she could not hold in her cheers, and although she kept telling me not to cry, she was the one with tears of joy in her eyes. We signed the papers and got our number. She was #4063, a bay filly just under a year old, out of Oregon.

The Whitmores of It’s a Pleasure Training, did an amazing job of coordinating transportation, and the mustang was delivered to us on March 5th.

Our good friends, Clay and Vanessa of J&M Stables have been so kind to offer to house the mustang at their facility for the duration of the challenge. We keep our other horse there and it is like a second home to us. There is no other place we would want to keep her.  They have even allowed us to use their round pen panels for the time being. Without their help this process would have been much, much more difficult, and maybe not even possible.

Mia is also very lucky to be part of our amazing riding club, Westfield Riding Club  and her amazing 4-H club, 4-H Calvary Horse Club. within these groups, she is lucky to have lots support from people willing to share their knowledge!
